The New Meeting Point for Young People: Güzel İşler Fabrikası (GİF)
Turkey Youth and Education Service Foundation (TÜRGEV) held the launch of our new project Güzel İşler Fabrikası (GIF) with the slogan #GençlerinHareketAlanı last night.
For the introduction event of our new youth spaces project called Güzel İşler Fabrikası (GIF), we came together yesterday with many leading figures from politics, culture, art, cinema and media, as well as our students and friends.
We shared the story of the GIF project—set out to offer young people a free, accessible and comfortable study environment and to meet the demand for out-of-home study spaces—with our guests, accompanied by a presentation by our Board Chair Fatmanur Altun.
In her presentation, which started with promotional films, our Chair emphasized that GIF is built not just as a venue but as an idea of connection: “We want young people to come together sometimes in places, sometimes at events. Güzel İşler Fabrikası exists to provide them with that opportunity,” she said.
Noting that in an age when the desired information is easily accessible, they wish to see young people acting in the field rather than simply teaching them, our Chair added:
“We want to offer young people the chance to form a community. We want to give them an opportunity to find one another. We want them to be part of a network that moves from local roots to national scope, but we want them to build it themselves. That is, let them form small communities, let those small communities come together, and in that way let young people find themselves as part of an environment.”
About “Güzel İşler Fabrikası”
With GIF, we aim not only to establish study and activity centers that students across Turkey can use safely and comfortably, but also to provide physical and equipment resources for their academic, professional or personal work.
Currently, Güzel İşler Fabrikası operates four locations—GIF Ankara, GIF Safveti Paşa, GIF Vezneciler and GIF Silopi—as study and activity centers offering core resources and educational support to high school, university, master’s and doctoral students.
Through GIF, we want to bring students across Turkey opportunities to use safe and comfortable spaces, to form communities, and to feel themselves as part of a respectful environment within those communities.
