This time, we followed the Traces of the Ancient in Denizli!
In the second phase of the Traces of the Ancient project, we were in Denizli to document Yörük culture. Together with our field team, who received oral history training at Ibn Haldun University, we visited the districts of Tavas, Acıpayam, Çal, Çivril, and Çardak in Denizli. We recorded cultural elements related to Yörük traditions found in villages and highlands and conducted interviews with a total of 70 source individuals. For the documentary component of the project, our team carried out filming based on a prewritten script.
The collected materials on the birth, marriage, and death traditions of the Denizli Yörüks, as well as their traditional occupations, cuisine, clothing, sociocultural life, and cultural vocabulary, are currently being prepared for publication by our students.
The next stop of the Traces of the Ancient will be Afyonkarahisar.
