“Geleceği bugünden kurmak”

We are here to become the heirs of the Islamic History of Science treasure, shaped by the knowledge-seeking journeys of countless scientists throughout history.

Who Are We?

We are a group of young people who set out in 2019 with the goal of discovering and truly understanding the treasure of Islamic History of Science. In Islamic civilization, “science” has a deep-rooted history and is a treasure that has never been confined to the past thanks to its lasting legacy. By uncovering this treasure, we are filled with the hope of becoming individuals connected to the enduring values of our civilization.

On this path, we define ourselves as “Young Science Explorers” and aim to honor the true essence of exploration. In our civilization, a “seyyah” is not merely someone who travels. A “seyyah” seeks not just to experience new places, but to internalize them and convey the civilizational understanding that shaped those places to others.

To build this awareness, we want to carry out our work by making use of modern tools in an innovative and ever-evolving manner. After taking the first step through reading groups and research centered on madrasahs and observatories, we aim to further develop ourselves with a structured educational curriculum built on a solid foundation. We dream of launching a content-rich website and engaging actively in both virtual and social spheres.

We are here to become the heirs of the treasure of Islamic History of Science, shaped by the knowledge-producing journeys of countless scholars. If you would like to support our research and take part in our educational programs, be sure to follow us.

What Do We Do?

“Workshops”

Why Is the History of Islamic Science Important?

In the first revealed verses, Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and through him all Muslims, to read, encouraging them to write with the pen and to advance in knowledge and understanding. The history of science is the story of how scientific theories, discoveries about existence, and scientific thought evolved through mutual influence.

In Islamic civilization, the history of science includes not only religious sciences such as hadith, tafsir, jurisprudence, and theology, but also the scientific studies Muslims carried out in fields like astronomy, mathematics, and medicine.

The History of Science presents the fundamental components of our culture and intellectual world. It holds a distinct importance as it encompasses the historical journey of all human intellectual activities, especially the act of contemplating existence. For this reason, learning and teaching the History of Islamic Science—which contains valuable knowledge that forms the foundation of civilization and guides its course—should be given great importance.

For this reason, within our workshops, we conduct systematic lessons designed to make the History of Islamic Science easier to understand. The lessons we have conducted as part of the project are as follows:

  1. At our Ankara Youth Center, we held two separate sessions with Dr. Murat Çelik on March 20 and 27.

2. Additionally, in the online format, we held three sessions on April 7, 14, and 21 with Dr. Siracettin Arslan focused on the development of physical sciences in the History of Islamic Science. These sessions explored the progress of optics and mechanics in Islamic science, as well as the contributions of Muslim scholars to the broader history of the physical sciences.

“Social Media Activities”

As the Young Science Explorers team, we produce content under various themes through our Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Under the title “Under the Dome,” we share posts on Twitter in the form of threads consisting of 5 to 10 tweets, and as carousel posts on Instagram, focusing on traditional institutions of Islamic Science History such as madrasahs and observatories, following a structured format.

Under the main title “Lens,” we share book excerpts and especially translations from foreign sources. The excerpts in this series are presented under two subheadings: “Lens” and “Perspective.”

Under the title “Library,” we share book recommendation posts related to the history of Islamic science.
