The traditional winter camp of the TÜRGEV Academy program, which brings together students living in TÜRGEV dormitories with objective education in both Islamic Studies and Social Sciences, was held this year from February 8 to 13, 2019 in Palandöken, Erzurum.
The TÜRGEV Academy program, which aims to cultivate young women who understand their identity and civilization and to develop pioneering and qualified participants at national and international levels, did not neglect winter sports in the book reading themed camp.
As part of the Erzurum trip, visits were made to the Congress and National Struggle Museum, Üç Kümbetler, the Double Minaret Madrasa, the Tomb of Abdurrahman Gazi, traditional Erzurum houses, Taşhan, Lalapaşa Mosque, Ulu Mosque and Yakutiye Madrasa. On the second day of the camp, poet and writer Nurullah Genç met with the students and held a productive discussion on “The Impact of Poetry and Literature on Young People.”
On the third day of the camp, Associate Professor Dr. Ayşe Bayrakçeken—known in the scientific world for the nanomaterials she developed and recipient of the 2017 TÜBA Successful Young Scientist Award—met with the students, gave a comprehensive presentation under the heading “Science and Technology,” and then answered their questions.
TÜRGEV Board Chair Fatmanur Altun, Board Member Tülay Kalav, General Director Mr. Oktay Altındiş and Erzurum Member of Parliament Zehra Taşkesenlioğlu, who supported the program from its conception and preparation all the way through to the final day, shared their experiences with the students. After gifts were presented and photographs taken, the TÜRGEV Academy students returned to Istanbul to recharge before the intensive program, with classes beginning on Saturday, February 16, 2019.
